Faridabad, July 17

The YMCA University of Science and Technology here has been allotted 18 acres of land for its campus expansion.

A spokesperson for the university said that the Technical Education Department had approved 18 acres of proposed 62 acres of Municipal Corporation of Faridabad (MCF) land near Sector 49 on the Faridabad-Gurugram highway.

The varsity authorities have been asked to take up the matter with the MCF, district administration and other departments for clearance. Admitting that the allotment was less than the demand raised, Jitender Singh, varsity PRO, said that allotment of more land was expected in near future as the proposal of 62 acres had been accepted by the government. He, however, said that this allotment would be able to serve the basic purpose for the time being.

The 20 acres of present campus of the university located in Sector-6 here is quite cramped and the university has been finding it difficult to start new courses.

Prof Dinesh Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of the university, said the new campus would help in starting several new courses. “As many as 11 new courses of science, management, computer and arts have been introduced with increase in seats,” he said.

“The university plans to introduce MSc in biotechnology and microbiology,” he said, and added that the university had recently been rechristened as JC Bose YMCA University of Science and Technology. — TNS
