Nurpur, July 12

Priynka (18), who hails from Holi in Chamba district, is the youngest Mixed Marital Art (MMA) woman fighter from the country to qualify for the MMA World Championship. 

She, along with Somi Devi (20) of Kandwal in Nurpur, won the gold medal in the 3rd National MMA Championship held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The young players have brought laurels to the state by qualifying for the World championship slated to be held later this year. The MMA is a mixture of wrestling, judo and kickboxing.

Coach Amit Rana said the young fighters sustained injuries while participating in the national event but did not lose courage and won the final event. The MMA fighters have dedicated their gold medals to victims of the Kullu bus mishap. — OC
