Another job fraud comes to fore

After the constable recruitment scam, another fraud, in which hundreds of jobseekers were duped, has come to the fore.

The accused had been duping the youth by using the names of some senior Congress leaders and demanded up to Rs 4 lakh for providing the youth the job of clerks in HP State Cooperative Bank. Some candidates were even given fake appointment letters.

Sources said the case pertained to the last quarter of 2017 when the Congress government was making recruitments in the state cooperative and Kangra State Cooperative Bank.

The sources said those involved in the scam also roped in Shahpur contractor Sanjay Kumar. They offered him help if he wanted to get anyone recruited in state cooperative bank.

Sanjay also helped the accused roping in 22 more from Chamba, Hamirpur and Kangra districts, who paid money for jobs. Interestingly, Sanjay transferred the amount collected from the jobseekers through his bank account to the account of the accused. Sanjay initially claimed that the accused also issued fake appointment letters.

They were told by the accused that their joining would take place after the poll code was over.

However, when the candidates went to bank headquarters in Shimla for joining after elections, they were shocked to know that the letters were fake.

As per recorded conversation, the accused were still involved in luring the youth into paying money for jobs.

The sources said Sanjay had agreed to become an approver in the case. He had also handed over documents and bank account details to the police. However, now, he has fled.

SP, Kangra, Vimukt Ranjan said the police were investigating the case and those guilty of running the racket would not be spared.
