After imposing a ban on the use of polythene and plastic, the government has banned the use of thermocol plates and glasses as another step to save the environment from degradation.
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur had announced on World Environment Day to impose a blanket ban on the use of plastic/thermocol plates but it was observed that despite the ban on polythene bags and plastic items like thermocol cups, plates, glasses and spoons, these were still in use.
To reiterate its commitment to save the environment, the government has issued a fresh notification on Saturday banning use of thermocol cups, plates, glasses, spoons or any other item for serving and consuming food in any form manufactured from non-biodegradable material as listed in Schedule under HP Non-Biodegradable Garbage (Control) Act, 1995.
No person, including shopkeepers, vendors, wholesalers, retailers, hawkers, rehriwalas, will use the material. The ban on thermocol items will be made effective after three months from the date of publication of the notification so that manufacturers, stockists and shopkeepers can dispose of their stocks and no financial loss is caused to them, an official spokesman said.
