Kullu, April 30
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Monday laid the foundation stone of beautification of the historic Mall Road in Manali.
On the last day of his three-day sojourn to Kullu and Manali, he launched a mobile application for permits to Rohtang Pass and a senior citizen initiative of the District Red Cross Society.
The Chief Minister later attended the closing ceremony of the Road Safety Week at Manali bus stand. He also addressed a public meeting at Manu Rangshala.
While addressing a gathering on Sunday at the Old Manali village after performing ‘puja’ at Manu temple, he said the government would ensure that the village was developed and would be a major tourist attraction.
He said Member of Parliament Ram Swaroop Sharma had provided about Rs 40 lakh for the development of the village under the ‘Adarsh Gram Yojana’.
He said all out efforts would be made in order to make Old Manali, an ‘adarsh’ village. He said a detailed project report (DPR) would also be prepared for providing sewerage facility to the village.
Mandi MP Ram Swaroop Sharma said he had adopted the Old Manali village and funds had been provided for various development works.
He said the village was not only historic, but also a major tourist attraction destination. He urged the Chief Minister to develop the village as ‘Manu Dham’.
Transport and Forest Minister Govind Singh Thakur thanked the Chief Minister for providing development projects worth Rs 120 crore to Kullu and Manali area.
Brig Khushal Thakur (retd), chairperson of the four-lane Sangharsh Samiti Mandi-Kullu, said a delegation met the Chief Minister on Monday and apprised him of the problems and hassles faced by the affected persons.
He said the Chief Minister assured them of providing all possible help for getting compensation and rehabilitation.
