Ravinder Sood
Palampur, December 30
Ravinder Thakur, former minister, Irrigation and Public Health, and BJP MLA, today said that the BJP would fight for setting up the central university at Dehra Gopipur.
Addressing a news conference here today, Thakur said according to the notification of the state government issued in 2010, Dehra Gopipur was declared the venue of the central university. Land has also been transferred in the name of the university. Therefore, there was no justification to shift the venue of the university from Dehra to Dharamsala.
Criticising the move of Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh to shift the university to Dharamsala, he said as Dehra Gopipur was represented by a BJP MLA (Ravinder Thakur), the Chief Minister doesn’t want develop the place.
He said the BJP had already taken up the matter with the Centre and Union Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani had given an assurance that the campus of the university would be at Dehra Gopipur.
He alleged that the Chief Minister had stopped all development activity in the constituencies of Opposition MLAs and that the CM had adopted a pick-and-choose policy in the allocation of funds in different districts.
It was on record that additional funds were being allotted to ruling party MLAs where as development projects were starved for funds in the Opposition MLAs’ areas, he alleged.
He said a mahapanchayat would soon be organised in Dehra Gopipur to decide on the action to force the state government to open the CU at Dehra Gopipur.
