With the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s (BSNL) cellular services going from bad to worse due to poor signals, people living in the vicinity of Kasauli are a harried lot.

As per the Telephone Regulatory Authority of India’s guidelines, the quantum of call drops should not exceed more than the prescribed 3 per cent limit.

Customers availing the BSNL cellular services said all calls were getting dropped before completing conversation. Devinder Gupta, a businessman from Kasauli, said: “The situation has become so deplorable on the Mall Road that either there are no signals or call gets dropped.”

Rimi Bhardwaj, another user, said it was impossible to make a call without experiencing call drops and poor signals were a hallmark of the BSNL cellular services in the areas surrounding Kasauli. Interestingly, BSNL officials rarely admit that the call drop rate was high or the signal problem made it difficult to make or receive calls.

Ajit Singh, a BSNL official, said they had not received any such complaint in the recent days.

He said a problem which had occurred a few days ago at the Jagjitnagar BTS tower had been rectified.

A few BTS towers of the BSNL do not have adequate security staff and if there is a power failure the BSNL cell phones stop functioning as there is no manpower .
