Under the Mukhyamantri Kshay Rog Nivaran Yojana, the Health Department and the district administration organised an orientation training workshop at the Civil Hospital on Wednesday evening. Chemists (wholesalers and retailers) were told not to sell H1 drugs without a prescription.

Dr RK Sood, Kangra district TB officer, directed them to maintain a record of schedule H1 drugs and enter 14 TB drug sales in a separate register. He said TB had become a major health problem in the country and inappropriate diagnosis, irregular, incomplete treatment with anti-tubercular drugs might contribute to complications.

Vikas Thakur, drug inspector, Nurpur, said under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act-1940 amended in 2013, 46 drugs were under Schedule H1, which included high antibiotics, sedatives and 14 drugs of TB. The chemists had to maintain and submit the record of sales of these drugs to the drug inspector on a monthly basis.

Those who didn’t sell schedule H1 drugs had to give an undertaking to the Health Department annually.

Dr Ravinder Kumar, consultant, World Health Organisation (WHO), said the world had committed to ending TB by 2030 and India had vowed to do it by 2025. Each TB case diagnosed or put on treatment had to be notified to the local public health authority or the Chief Medical Officer, he added.
