Chill persists as Kufri, Mashobra receive snow

Most parts of Himachal reeled under severe cold wave conditions as the minimum temperatures stayed below normal in spite of clear sky today while 416 roads were still closed and restoration works in full swing.
The high-altitude tribal areas groaned under arctic conditions with the mercury staying 18 to 23 degree below freezing point and Keylong, Kalpa and Manali recorded a low of minus 14 degree, minus 7.8 degree and minus 3.8 degree. Sundernagar, Solan and Shimla shivered at 1.6 degree, 2 degree and 2.2 degree while Bhuntar recorded a low of 2.4 degree.
The day temperatures rose marginally as sun shone over large tracts of land. Una was the warmest with a high of 21.8 degree while Keylong recorded the maximum zero degree temperature.
The region had a moderate snowfall and rain for the past 24 hours and Janjehli and Dalhousie received 8 cm snow, followed by Kalpa 7 cm, Kufri 4 cm, Mashobra 3 cm and Khadrala 2 cm. Seobagh was the wettest with 19 mm rain while Bhoranj and Baijnath recorded 16 mm rain, followed by Baijnath and Palampur 10 mm and Sundernagar and Rohru 8 mm.
As many as 416 roads remained closed and 167 roads were closed in Mandi and Kullu circles, 137 in the Shimla region and 89 in the Dalhousie circle.
The local MeT office has predicted rain and thundershowers in lower hills and rain and snow at many places in mid and higher hills from February 5 to February 8 and dry weather over the next two days.
