Solan,November 27

The district administration has suspended trekking to the Churdhar peak in Sirmaur district for six months keeping in view the inclement weather and heavy snow on the 11,965 feet peak.

A doctor from the PGI, Chandigarh, also lost his life last Saturday as he could not brave the inclement weather. An appeal has also been made to devotees to put on hold their pilgrimage to the famous Shirgul temple as its route has thick forest where the GPS signal also does not give the exact location of a traveller.

If a traveller is in trouble or loses way and seeks help, it becomes a headache to locate him and the risk of casualties looms large, said SP Ajay Krishan Sharma.

A number of signboards has also been erected along the route to warn travellers from not scaling the trek for six months when fog and snow reduce the visibility.

Police officials are trying to disseminate the message through various platforms and they are also planning to take more steps to stop the people from risking their lives during the span. The SP said risk takers would be booked as this could serve as an effective message to those defying the ban.
