Concern over dip in NIRF rankings

The president of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh Teacher’s Association, Dr SK Srivastava, has alleged that the university is faring poorly on both academic and administrative fronts.

He said studies had taken a back seat and the university had also witnessed a decline in the NIRF rankings.

Dr Srivastava said there were several departments where the strength of students was minimal.

“Several senior faculty members have joined other institutions while others were looking for a suitable opportunity. Lack of infrastructure, facilities and a lackluster attitude of the university management are to be blamed for the current situation,” he alleged.

Research work presented in the UK

Dr Shailender Verma from Centre for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, CUHP, who is currently working in collaboration with UK’s leading plant research institute — John Innes Centre — recently presented his work on “Nutrition enhancement in wheat” at MonoGram-2018 in the UK. Dr Verma is working as Newton International Fellow in the UK and his research work was sponsored by the Royal Society. Dr Verma also got an opportunity to meet leading scientists there.

One-day colloquium organised

The department of chemistry organised a one-day colloquium. Prof Gurmeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Pondicherry University, delivered a lecture on ‘Corrosion and its effect in daily life’.

2 papers get place in international journals

Two papers of a group led by Dr Subhankar Chatterjee of the chemistry department have been published in international journals. The projects were supported by the CSIR.

Portrayal of women in ‘Rajatarangini’

D. Shreeya Bakshi presented a research paper on “Portrayal of Women in Rajatarangini : A Study of their Status and Role” during a three-day national seminar held in New Delhi recently. Rajatarangini is a metrical legendary and historical chronicle of the north-western Indian subcontinent, particularly the kings of Kashmir. It was written in Sanskrit by Kashmiri historian Kalhana in the 12th Century CE.

Four-day educational tour

The department of sociology and social anthropology organised a four-day educational tour ‘Jammu Darshan’ to Jammu and Kashmir recently. The students gained much experience during the tour.
