Chamba, August 19

MLA Jia Lal Kapoor who represents the Pangi tribal area, a part of the Bharmour constituency, has said that a consensus has been reached on the construction of the Chehni tunnel, beneath the Chehni mountain pass, which will link the Pangi tribal valley with the rest of the district.The proposed tunnel falls on the Draman-Jot-Chamba-Killar (Pangi) route, which has recently been declared the national highway by the Centre.

The MLA said the issue was discussed at a meeting recently, which was attended by Bhattiyat MLA Vikram Jaryal, Chamba MLA Pawan Nayyar officials concerned and residents of Pangi.

The participants were of the view that after the construction of the Chehni tunnel, the Pangi tribal valley would remained linked with the district headquarters in all seasons. It was also be useful from the strategic point of view.
