The Hoteliers Association Mandi has urged Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur to develop key tourist destinations of the district to improve the condition of the local hotel industry.

A delegation of the association met the Chief Minister today and apprised him of its grievances. Munish Sood, president of the association, said, “Most of the hoteliers in Mandi district are struggling and the hotel industry is on the edge because of a low tourist footfall. After the completion of the Kiratpur-Manali road expansion project, the situation will deteriorate for the industry if the government does not develop Mandi district as a tourist destination”.

“We urged the Chief Minister to connect the key tourist destinations of the district such as Shikari Devi, Prashar Lake, Kamrunag, Rewalsar and Mandi town in a tourist circuit and provide helicopter services to tourists. There is need to construct a welcome gate in ‘Pahari’ architecture before Mandi town to attract more tourists. Basic facilities should be made available at these destinations for the convenience of tourists. Besides, we are demanding setting up of a tourist information centre at Mandi,” he added.

Sood said that the Chief Minister assured them of working on our suggestions.
