Expedition to Mt Kilimanjaro

A nine-member team — seven girls and two female teachers — of Lawrence School, Sanawar, on Wednesday started its expedition to Mount Kilimanjaro —the highest mountain in Africa, with its summit about 4,900 metre (16,100 ft) from its base, and 5,895 metre (19,341 ft) above sea level.

A nine-member team — seven girls and two female teachers — of Lawrence School, Sanawar, on Wednesday started its expedition to Mount Kilimanjaro —the highest mountain in Africa, with its summit about 4,900 metre (16,100 ft) from its base, and 5,895 metre (19,341 ft) above sea level. The team is carrying the national flag and the school flag. The expedition, to be carried out between August 7 and 17, was flagged off by Surabhi Garg, Assistant Commissioner in the Indian Revenue Services, and Headmaster Vinay Pande. Surbhi said, “It is yet another reply to patriarchy prevalent in our society as Sanawar has sent an all-girls' team to Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. It is indeed a remarkable feat.” A special assembly was also organised to felicitate the team.

Parent-teacher body formed

Ivy International School on Wednesday held its general house and formed the parent-teacher association. Office-bearers to the association were also elected. Shobha Thakur and Sanjeev Kanwar were unanimously elected the president and vice-president, respectively. Devendra Prabha from the office of the Deputy Director of Higher Education was also present. Devendra highlighted the relevance of constituting such a body in every academic institution.

Cleanliness fortnight at Him Academy

A fortnight-long cleanliness drive started at Him Academy Public School, Hira Nagar, on Wednesday. More than 70 students are participating it it. They collected polythene and plastic bottles from the forest area near the school. Principal Vaneeta Gupta appreciated the efforts of the students.
