Firm gets approval to implement insurance scheme for farmers

HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company Ltd has been authorised by the Government of Himachal Pradesh to implement restructured weather-based crop insurance scheme (RWBCIS) for loanee and non loanee farmers of apple orchard in all blocks of Mandi and Lahul Spiti district, mango orchard in Sundernagar; plum orchard in Sadar, Gohar, Balh and Sundernagar; and peach in Sadar block of Mandi district.
All the products under crop insurance scheme are approved by the Department of Horticulture, Government of Himachal Pradesh.
The RWBCIS offers insurance cover against losses of farmers due to aberrant weather conditions during the crop cycle that is sowing to harvesting stage of crop. Farmers can contact their respective banks, nearest CSC and the HDFC ERGO authorized agents to get the cover. The claim amounts will be settled on the basis of data taken from reference weather stations mentioned in the scheme approved by the Government of Himachal Pradesh.
The RWBCIS uses adverse weather parameters like temperature, frost, rainfall, humidity and other to determine the anticipated loss in the yield of crop to compensate cultivators for the deemed loss of crop.
Deputy Director, Horticulture Department, Mandi, Amar Prakash Gupta said that farmers should take crop insurance cover against losses due to aberrant weather conditions during the crop cycle, that is, sowing to harvesting stage of crop.
He added that the department generally makes aware the farmers round the year to take benefit of such schemes provide by the state government for them.
