Governor Acharya Devvrat today honoured wrestler Kumari Rani who secured a bronze medal at the recently held 20th Women’s Senior National Wrestling Competition in Indore.
Kumari is employed with the state police and represented Himachal in the 76-kg category. She defeated Punjab’s Kulwindr Kaur. The Governor also honoured other women wrestlers — Kumari Ruchika, Priya, Nidhi, Aarti, Tanu and Soni — who had also participated in the competition. They were also given a cheque for Rs 25,000 each by the State Bank of India, while Kumari Rani received a cheque for Rs 51,000.
Earlier, the Governor addressed the elderly at the Senior Citizens Centre in the old DC office building. He said the younger generation should learn from the elderly and use their knowledge for the betterment of society. “The country has high hopes from the youth,” Devvrat said.
He urged the youth to be disciplined and shape their future to face the challenges of life fearlessly. He also dwelt on the age-old tenets of attaining education in Gurukuls saying these inculcated high values and inspired one to work for the welfare of others.
The Governor also exhorted the youth to abstain from the use of drugs and asked them to adopt positive virtues in life. He lauded the efforts of Deputy Commissioner, Solan, Rakesh Kanwar, for setting up such a centre. Others should also explore the possibility of opening such centres under one roof, Devvrat said.
