One person was washed away in the Sajwad Nullah in Banjar today despite rescue efforts by villagers.
SP Gaurav Singh said Chunni Lal of Jibhi village was stranded after his hut was washed away due to flood in the nullah. Villagers tried to rescue him but the strong current took him away.
DC Richa Verma said a ‘ponywalla’ reportedly died in Rohtang. She said over 60 roads and 16 houses were damaged due to heavy rain.
Most of the routes from Kullu had been blocked due to landslides. The Kullu-Manali right bank and left bank road, to Manikaran, Mandi, Banjar-Jalori Pass and Kullu-Kandi road were blocked. Kullu and Manali had been cut-off.
The mercury has dipped in the valley. The higher reaches of Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti districts received a fresh snowfall while the lower reaches were lashed by incessant rain, flooding various rivers and rivulets. The newly constructed road by the NHAI also caved in near Jia on the Bhuntar-Kullu left bank road
Richa Verma said all educational institutions of Kullu district had been directed to remain closed on August 19. The departments concerned had been advised to prepare a detailed report of the losses due to incessant rain.
A house in Inner Akhara Bazar of Kullu developed cracks. Flights to the Kullu airport were also cancelled due to bad weather. However, the weather was clear in the afternoon.
