HP Varsity VC releases book
Himachal Pradesh University Vice-Chancellor Prof Sikander Kumar released “Dev Sangeet”, a book authored by Dr Kirti Garg Bhatia. The book gives a glimpse of fairs and festivals, “Dev Utsav” and “Sanskar Utsav”. The VC lauded the efforts of the author, saying it would help preserve the local culture. A research paper on the book has already been published.
Robotics competition
Rainbow International School, Nagrota Bagwan, hosted the International Robotics Competition-IRC Open League, Session-10. The competition was organised by Avishkaar and Mind Grind. This year’s theme is to promote the concept of ‘Bot Olympics’, which aims at motivating the youth to design and build robots that can solve their problems. As many as 31 teams from different schools of Shimla, Mandi, Chamba, Rohru and Rampur participated in the competition. These teams competed in different levels – junior, middle and senior. In the junior level, ‘Sharp Stackers’ of Rainbow World School, Bhawarna, secured the first position. In the middle level, ‘Winning Warriors’ of Rainbow World School stood first, while in the senior level, ‘Two Sided Gamers’ of Rainbow World School, Bhawarna, secured the first position.
Annual cultural event
Viveka Foundations Senior Secondary School Mansimbal, Palampur, celebrated the annual cultural event “Sanskriti-2019”. Justice Jaishree Thakur was the chief guest. Students presented classical dance and nati. Toppers were felicitated by the chief guest.
Pinegrove, Welham in cricket final
Pinegrove School and Welham Boys’ School will clash in the final of the 1st Invitational Cricket Tournament being played at Pinegrove School, Dharampur, Solan. In the league matches on the second day of the tournament, APS Dagshai outplayed PPS, Nabha. APS team scored 103 runs. Chasing the target, PPS, Nabha, could muster 101 runs at the end of its spell of 15 overs. Gopal of APS Dagshai was declared player of the match. In the second match between Welham Boys and Lawrence School, Sanawar, Welham boys won the toss and decided to bat first. In reply to their 127 runs, Lawrence boys could manage only 80 runs and lost all their wickets. Aryan of Welham Boys was declared the player of the match. In the first semifinal played between APS, Dagshai, and hosts Pinegrove School, APS won the toss and decided to bat first. They were all out for a paltry 40 runs. The host team achieved the target in just 5.1 overs without losing a single wicket. Devashish of the winning side walked away with player of the match trophy. In the second semifinal played between Welham Boys and Mayo College, Welham won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored 145 runs in 20 overs. Chasing the score, Mayo boys were all out for 120 runs. Amaan Ahmed of Welham Boys School was declared player of the match.
