A youth Sunny, who was operating a JCB machine at Darlaghat, was buried under a massive boulder when the hill from above caved in around 2:45 pm today.
DSP Darlaghat, Yogesh Rolta, who rushed to the spot, said rescue operations were initiated immediately and cranes and other machinery had been requisitioned from Ambuja Cement Limited to lift the huge boulder.
A pain relieving injection has been given to Sunny to help him bear the pain as the boulder was yet to be removed even after two hours of the incident. His condition was becoming miserable with each passing minute owing to the weight of the huge boulder.
Efforts were under way to lift the boulder. An NDRF team from Panchkula was rushed late in the evening to the spot to aid the rescue operation. Sunny hails from Mandi district. The local administration is trying to feed water to Sunny through a pipe to help him battle this difficult situation. A crane which was pressed into service to lift the 100-tonne boulder failed to prove useful as its string gave way while the boulder failed to move. The rescue operations were restarted around 8:30 pm with the arrival of the NDRF team.
