Considering the current global and national dilemma faced by respective governments regarding environmental and social issues, Loreto Convent Tara Hall organised the “Loreto Convent Movement” to unite nations as an initiative to not only spread awareness about it but also prepare young minds for future. The two-day event has been inaugurated with Pushpa and Reetu Sharma as the chief guest and special guest, respectively. The committees included in the movement along with their agenda and executive boards were: United Nations Security Council (agenda: perspective of developed nations towards climate change with special reference to the US), United Nations General Assembly (agenda: importance of eliminating poverty and zero hunger with special reference to the Horn of Africa), and Indian Parliamentary Committee (agenda: security of women in India, the shadowed part of society and international press).
Institutions mark World Ozone Day
The Heritage Club of St Bede's College, Mirassa, celebrated the World Ozone Day in collaboration with the zoology department. An introductory speech by Kajol Gera and an animated video highlighted the importance of ozone layer. In the end, a presentation was given by Arsh Thakur of the zoology department wherein she explained the importance of ozone layer and the ways through which one can stop its depletion. Meanwhile, Him Academy Public School in Hamirpur organised inter-house quiz contest to mark the day in which students of Class 10-12 participated. Questions from physics, chemistry, biology, ozone and current affairs were asked during the contest. Bhabha House bagged the first position with 105 points, followed by Raman House with 65 points.
Seminar on menstrual health, hygiene
A seminar on menstrual health and hygiene was organised at St Mary's Convent School, Kasauli. The session was presided over by Anuradha Singh, a health adviser from Solan and attended by the principal, girl students and the staff of the school. Singh highlighted the significance of personal hygiene during the monthly periods and also dwelt upon the emerging health issues along with their treatment. The students were told about the importance of adopting hygienic practices, which could help them minimise problems.
Pinegrove girls win soccer tourney
Pinegrove School, Dharampur, lifted the All India IPSC Girls' Under-19 soccer trophy by outplaying Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya, Gwalior, in the final match by registering an impressive 3-0 victory. Sumedha of the host team was the star performer and awarded player of the final match prize. Nirmala, also of Pinegrove, was adjudged the best goalkeeper of the tournament. Lhamit of the host school bagged the best defender of the tournament award. The best mid fielder of the tournament was awarded to Dikki Choden of Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya, Gwalior. Srishti of Pinegrove was adjudged the highest scorer of the tournament. Pasang of Pinegrove won the best player of the tournament award. Second runners-up trophy went to Assam Valley School, while first runners-up trophy to Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya, Gwalior. Chief Guest KC Chaman, Solan DC, was present on the occasion.
