Lt Gen Naravane takes over as ARTRAC chief

CHANDIGARH: Lt General Manoj Mukund Naravane took over as the 20th General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Shimla-based Army Training Command (ARTRAC) on elevation to the status of Army Commander here today.

Chandigarh, December 1

Lt General Manoj Mukund Naravane took over as the 20th General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Shimla-based Army Training Command (ARTRAC) on elevation to the status of Army Commander here today. Prior to this, he was posted as the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Delhi Area.

He took over from Lt Gen DR Soni, an armoured corps officer who assumed command of ARTRAC in September 2016. Lt Gen Soni has been posted as the GOC-in-C, Southern Command on the retirement of Lt Gen PM Hariz. Lt Gen Asit Mistry of the Maratha Light Infantry is the new GOC, Delhi Area.

An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Lt Gen Naravane was commissioned into the 7th Battalion of the Sikh Light Infantry in June 1980. His appointments include command of a Rashtriya Rifles battalion in Jammu & Kashmir, an Infantry Brigade, Inspector General Assam Rifles in North-East and a Strike Corps. He has served as an instructor at the Army War College and was the Indian Defence Attache to Myanmar. He holds a post-graduation degree in Defence Studies and an M.Phil in Defence and Management Studies. — TNS
