Chamba, July 26
A popular Congress stalwart Harsh Mahajan, who is known for his good conduct and enjoys love and support of the masses, is likely to be a nominee for Kangra Lok Sabha seat in the general elections scheduled next year.
There is murmur in political circles that Harsh Mahajan, a leader enjoying clean image, can be fielded by the Congress party from here in the next year’s parliamentary elections.
The talk of the town and the political circles is that high-profile veteran Congress leader, being non-controversial, can be an acceptable choice for the party as well as people.
Mahajan represented the Chamba Assembly constituency three terms in the state Vidhan Sabha.
This time the main issue being discussed everywhere in Chamba district is that the candidate for the Kangra LS seat should be from Chamba as Kangra district has always been given preference and Chamba district has neither been given representation in the Lok Sabha nor in Rajya Sabha so far since Independence.
Hence, taking into consideration these factors, a candidate could be fielded from Chamba this time.
Moreover, there is a strong anti-incumbency wave against the BJP-led government at the Centre, the Congress affiliates observe.
Despite best efforts, Harsh Mahajan could not be contacted for his views about the Lok Sabha elections from Kangra parliamentary constituency which also includes Chamba district.
