Mandi winner in group song competition

“To see the India of Swami Vivekananda’s dream, the youth today need to take inspiration from his life”, said speakers during a state-level youth day and week programme organised by the Youth Services and Sports Department of Himachal Pradesh on the campus of the National Institute of Fashion Technology at Chheb here today. Stress was laid that the youth should live a value-based life and should not take to drugs.

DC Sandeep Kumar who was the chief guest on the occasion said the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda were more relevant today when the nation needed more spiritual strength to combat adverse forces. He said that Swami Vivekananda provided inspiration to generations of Indian youth.

Sanjay Sharma, District Youth and Sports Officer, said 106 youth from 10 districts participated in four competitions.

In the group song competition, Mandi bagged the first prize, followed by Chamba second and Solan; in debate, Una got the first prize, Bilaspur bagged the second and Sirmour the third; in essay writing, Sirmour was first, Kullu second and Chamba was at the third spot; in painting, Kangra got the first prize, Chamba second and Mandi was third. Sandeep Kumar distributed the prizes.

Hemangini Mandaliya from Gujarat and a first year student of NIFT made an on the spot pencil sketch of Swami Vivekananda and got the first prize. — OC
