Palampur, December 1
The state government will pass a Bill for the formation of a municipal corporation in Palampur during the Assembly to be held in Dharamsala this month.
The State Urban Development is giving final touches to the Bill and has already completed all basic formalities.
Sources said two cases were under consideration with the state government — one of Palampur and the other pertaining to Solan. Files of both had been sent back to the district administration for the completion of certain formalities and the government issued clearance for the MC in Palampur. The Dhumal government had initiated steps for the formation of a municipal corporation at Palampur in 2009. Later, with the change of government, no headway was made and the demand of residents of Palampur was accepted after 10 years when the BJP came to power.
Soon after the formation of the BJP government in 2017, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur publicly accepted the demand and announced the formation of a municipal corporation during his first visit to the town. After the formation of the MC, Palampur will be the third town in the state after Shimla and Dharamsala to have a municipal corporation.
