Kangra, March 31
MCM DAV College in Kangra organised its 42nd annual prize distribution function here on Saturday.
Dr Ram Lal Markanda, Minister of Agriculture, Tribal Development and Information & Technology, was the chief guest on the occasion.
He also announced introduction of post-graduation classes in botany, zoology, mathematics, commerce and english from this session, in the college.
Dr Markanda appreciated the college for achieving top positions in academics and sports. He said excellence was the hallmark of the college.
The minister announced a cash prize of Rs 21,000 for the students who presented various cultural activities. He also announced an Aadhar Card Centre at the college campus and construction of a computer laboratory.
Dr Satish Kumar Sharma, director, DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi, was the Guest of Honour.
Over 250 students in various categories like academics, sports and extra-curricular activities were awarded on the occasion.
Principal Dr Baljeet Singh Patial highlighted various positions achieved by the students in academics and sports.
Surbhi Slaich of MSc Chemistry and Shamina Sharma of MSc Physics, who secured the first position and won gold medal at Himachal Pradesh University, were honoured on the occasion.
In sports, Abhijit Mankotia, who has been selected for the national football championship, was also honoured.
Students also performed marathi, bhangra and naati dance forms. Skits were also performed on cleanliness and problems of old age.
SDM Kangra Seshi Pal Negi and SDPO Kangra were also present on the occasion.
