Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu today said demonetisation was the biggest scam in India and the BJP must disclose source of money with which it purchased land for constructing its offices all over the state.

Addressing a public meeting at Nirmand in Kullu district today, Sukhu said barring BJP nobody else gained from demonetisation. “The BJP has used demonetization to turn its black money into white by purchasing land for building its office at various places in the state,” he alleged. He said the BJP bought land in Hamirpur despite the fact that the party already had an office in Hamirpur.

He said one of the prominent issues that would be raised in the Congress charge-sheet against the BJP would be the source of money for purchase of land for constructing party offices. “The economy has virtually been derailed, prices have sky-rocketed and there has been huge loss of livelihood and closure of industry as a result of the demonetization,” he remarked.

He said none of the objectives of demonetization cited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had been fulfilled as the black money stashed abroad had not been brought back, no job creation happened or terror funding stopped. “All that the BJP did by way of demonetization was to hoodwink people, especially the common man who believed in the dreams shown by the PM,” said Sukhu. He said more than 100 people had lost their lives standing in queues to get their own money from banks and ATMs.

He accused the BJP-led NDA regime of failing to fulfill the promises make to the people before the 2014 elections. “There is no check on the prices of petrol or diesel and all the decisions are aimed at benefitting the capitalists and not for the betterment of the life of the common man,” he said.
