156 logs of khair wood seized in Una village

The Forest Department today seized 156 logs of khair wood, allegedly felled illegally from the Bangana forest area.

Divisional Forest Officer Yashu Deep Singh said the ban on cutting of khair wood trees in Lathiani and Malangar panchayats was lifted under the 10-year felling plan and complaints were received from residents that two contractors were involved in illegal cutting of the trees.

Yashu Deep Singh said Assistant Conservator of Forests Rahul Sharma and Bangana Range Officer Sandeep Kumar had conducted an inquiry and found 134 logs of khair wood from Nahroon village of Malangar panchayat. Besides, one uprooted tree and 14 stumps were also recovered from the area.

The DFO said in the same village, 22 logs were also reportedly found cut. Most of these were on the government land. Yashu Deep Singh said a case under Section 379, IPC, and sections of the Indian Forest Act had been registered at the Bangana police station. He said in another, a vehicle carrying four logs of illegally cut khair wood was impounded in Lathiani village. Vehicle driver Surinder Kumar of Lathiani was arrested.
