Police personnel deployed at the Beas-Sutlej Link (BSL) project under the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) in Mandi district have been living in unhygienic conditions for the past one year because of the apathy of the board authorities. They are facing health hazards owing to the bad conditions of the barracks made for their stay.

Mandi SP Gurdev Chand Sharma told The Tribune that around 150 policemen were deployed at the BSL project site round the clock, but the BBMB authorities were reluctant to provide them better accommodation. “There is water seepage in many barracks and persistent foul smell,” he said.

“The BBMB authorities have been informed about the issue several times, but to no avail. We are now going to pull back the police force from the site because our men cannot serve in such pathetic conditions,” he added.

The SP said the BBMB authorities did not install CCTV cameras on its premises despite police directions.

Nitish Jain, Chief Engineer of the BBMB, Sundernagar, did not respond to phone calls.
