For the first time, 11 states including Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Haryana, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Uttarakhand will now have their own Doordarshan channel on DD free dish.
Member of Parliament and Chairman of Standing Committee of Information Technology Anurag Thakur expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for acknowledging and granting the request for making Doordarshan’s regional channel available for 24 hours on Direct-To-Home (DTH), which implies that DD Shimla will now become available 24 hours on DTH instead of 4 hours.
The standing committee of information technology under the chairmanship of Anurag Thakur visited Shimla, Chandigarh and other parts of the country as a part of the study tour, wherein the matter was raised, a release issued here on Sunday said.
“Our government is committed towards expanding the footprint and reach of Doordarshan channels. Through the standing committee of information technology, I have been advocating on making Doordarshan regional channels 24 hours available on DTH,” said Thakur, adding that the initiative would not only strengthen the regional channels, but also help in promoting local culture, news, artists and also expand employment avenues, he said.
“During the study tour of the standing committee of information technology to Shimla, Chandigarh and other parts of the country, the matter was taken up and viewing the merits of the case, the committee proposed to make the channel 24 hours on DTH in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, North East, Goa, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.”
