Nurpur man booked for torturing wife

NURPUR, October 16

Following the complaint of Jodh Singh of Kopra village the local police have registered a case against Ranjeet Singh of Nera village (Suliali) last evening for allegedly harassing and mentally torturing her wife Suman Bala who reportedly died in Nurpur civil hospital in suspicious condition yesterday.

As per police information, the complainant, whose is brother of the deceased, in his complaint has alleged that her sister was mentally and physically tortured by her husband following which she fell sick. The complainant, who happened to visit the place of in laws of his sister on Monday, found her sister in serious condition and rushed her to Nurpur civil hospital, where she died.

The deceased was a mother of a two-month-old baby. She married the accused in November 2013 but her in laws started harassing her. An alleged dowry harassment case was filed in the court after a few months of the marriage. Owing to the dispute the deceased went to her parents’ house and stayed there for a few years. Later, the dispute was settled with the intervention of the court. Then she came to her in laws.

DSP Sahil Arora said that a case under sections 306 and 498(A) of the IPC had been registered against Ranjeet Singh, the husband of the deceased. The postmortem examination of the deceased was conducted at Tanda Medical College, Kangra. Further action will be taken after receiving postmortem examination report, he informed.
