Official apathy mars Palampur projects

Owing to political apathy, projects foundation stones for which were laid by former CMs Virbhadra Singh, PK Dhumal and MLAs in the town have failed to make any headway. These projects could not be taken up in the past 10 years.

Virbhadra and later Dhumal had laid the foundation stones for six new projects in the town, but due to official apathy construction work of these projects could not be taken up.

Dhumal laid the foundation stone for a multi-storeyed parking project worth Rs 10 crore in the town in 2008. Later, Virbhadra laid the stone for the same project in 2015. Howver, construction work of the project is yet to start.

The municipal council had transferred land for this project in the heart of the town. On the occasion of the foundation stone-laying ceremony, Dhumal, in the presence of BJP MP Shanta Kumar, had announced that the project would be completed in 2010.

In 2015, Virbhadra, while laying the foundation stone for the second time for the project, fixed a two-year deadline for its completion. So far, the work has not started.

Likewise, the then Urban Development Minister Mohinder Singh had also laid the foundation stone for two more parking projects in the town. These projects too have been hanging fire for the past several years. Interestingly, these projects were funded by the Government of India and necessary funds had already been transferred to the municipal council long back.

Another project for residential complex of doctors in the local civil hospital was also hanging fire. As the design for the project could not be finalised, construction could not be taken up.
