A student of BPharmacy at a private university in Baddi was today arrested, along with two others, for snatching mobile phones from labourers at knifepoint.
His accomplices include a 19-year-old contract labourer and a 17-year-old boy.
Baddi SP Rohit Malpani said they had received complaints that they were snatching mobile phones from labourers on the Morepen road at night at knifepoint. The anti-theft unit of the special investigation unit had been working on the case for the past one week.
Three ordinary cellphones and a bike have been recovered from them.
The B Pharmacy student, Gurdeep Singh, who hails from Kakrala village of Punjab, had found snatching phones an easy way of making money to buy drugs and alcohol.
He had teamed up with a 17-year-old boy and 19-year-old Aakash Chandel, who hails from Panjhera village in Nalagarh and works as a contract labourer in a local factory, to execute the plans. The trio used to snatch cheap phones from labourers at knifepoint, said the SP.
He said further probe was on and they would be produced in court tomorrow.
