Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) chief Sukhwinder Singh and other senior party leaders and workers paid tributes to first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his 125th birth anniversary today.
Sukhu said Nehru had laid the foundation for the “Modern India” and gave vision to the country. “The country will always remember Nehru for his secular approach and putting India on the path of development,” he said.
He said: “Nehru will always be remembered for his role in the freedom movement and for giving shape to the biggest democracy in the world.”
Sukhu lashed out at the BJP for trying to divide the legacy of Nehru for petty political considerations. “Instead of misleading people by giving catchy slogans and false propaganda through the media the BJP should focus on real development which will improve the well-being of the common man,” he said.
Industries Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, HPCC General Secretary Harbhajan Singh Bhajji and State Youth Congress President Vikramaditya Singh were also present along with a large number of Congress, Youth Congress and National Students Union of India activists.
Cong pledges protection of sovereignty in Una
On the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, units of the Congress at the district and block levels organised functions in Una today. They pledged to protect the sovereignty and integrity of the country. District Congress president Varinder Dharmani was the chief guest at the district-level function at the Indira Gandhi sports stadium, while former Vice-Chairman of the Agro Packaging Corporation Omkar Sharma presided over a function at Haroli village.
Floral tributes paid to Nehru in Kangra
The 125th birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru was celebrated at various schools and the Congress office in Kangra today.
Floral tributes were paid to Pandit Nehru by the Kangra District Congress Committee Chief Suman Verma and other office-bearers in the Municipal Council hall.
Describing Nehru as a great statesman and visionary, Suman said his contribution for building a “New India” after Independence could never be ignored.
Meanwhile, students of different schools affiliated with the CBSE celebrated the day at the local GAV Public School and organised a Swachh Bharat, Swasth Bharat cycle rally.
An inter-school dance competition was also organised on Children Day and tributes were paid to Chacha Nehru.
Students at DAV School, Tiara, and DAV School, Alampur, presented a cultural programme and held different competitions to observe the day.
