Shimla, September 30
AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi today performed “puja” at her newly built cottage in Charabra, about 12 km from here.
She arrived here yesterday to perform puja during the auspicious Navratras with Hindu priests specially called in from South India to complete the rituals. Priyanka was accompanied by her son and daughter. She returned to Delhi this afternoon.
To inspect cottage construction, Priyanka, generally accompanied by her mother and AICC president Sonia Gandhi, has been frequently visiting this place. Last month, she visited the place with her husband Robert Vadra. Priryanka purchased the land, located in idyllic setting close to “Retreat” the Rashtrapati Niwas, in 2007. She was specially granted permission by the then Congress government to purchase land here. Being a high-security zone close to “Retreat”, no houses are allowed in the vicinity and Priyanka was granted permission by Rashtrapati Bhawan, to pave way for her house, built like an English cottage with a blend of hill architecture, the house took almost a decade to be completed. — TNS
