Una, May 13
A 12-ft-long python was spotted in an irrigation tank at Dangoli village on the outskirts of Una today.
Hem Raj, panchayat pradhan, said when Sham Lal, a farmer, stepped into the tank to open the valve for irrigating his fields, he spotted a python and informed the villagers.
He said since it was a holiday and wildlife officials could not be contacted, the villagers decided to move the animal to an uninhabited forest land. The villagers tied the python with ropes and put it in a tractor-trailer. The reptile was released safely in a secluded forest area, said the pradhan. — OC
