Rain lashes Kangra valley; Dhauladhar ranges experience heavy snowfall

Heavy rain lashed Kangra valley and Dhauladhar mountain range experienced snowfall bringing down the temperature considerably on Thursday.

Following the drop in temperature, it became chilly in the valley. The sky was overcast since Wednesday and it began raining later in the night. It was raining till filing of the report. Due to the severe cold, normal life came to a halt. Fresh heavy snowfall was experienced on the Dhauladhar and its foot hills which kept people indoors.

Schoolchildren were the worst affected as it rained and the temperature dropped further. Bonfires were lit up at various places in the markets. Kangra recored maximum temperature of 13 degree Celsius and minimum temperature was recorded at 9 degree Celsius. Dharamsala town recorded maximum temperature of 10.6 degree Celsius and minimum of 3.4 degree Celsius. Kangra recorded 5 mm rain and Dharamsala recorded 7 mm rain on Thursday. Reports of rain were received from Shahpur, Gaggal, Rait, Nagrota Bagwan, Dharamsala, Mallan, Chanumda, Jawalamukhi and Dehra, Ranital, and other places. — OC
