Uniforming knowledge with social activities for the holistic development of nation is the need of the hour, said member, Executive Council and former Pro-Vice Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University, Prof NK Sharda, while speaking at the valedictory function of Refresher Course in English organised by the Department of English at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, HPU, in Shimla. As many as 20 scholars of international repute shared and enriched participants by their deliberations, interactions and experiences. These two weeks of the course had a plethora of world renowned academics and writers. The course was attended by 37 participants from 11 states across the country. The theme was "Indian Literary Theory and Contemporary New Literatures". Scholars dwelled extensively upon the seminal concerns in modern Indian theatre, performing arts, storytelling, folk literature and translation.
Population awareness fortnight
A lecture on mega population and a "nukkad natak" on the same theme marked the "Mega Population Awareness Pakhwada" celebrated by the NCC unit of St Bedês College, Shimla, on Saturday. The programme ended with the quote - "It starts with one Earth, with one awakening, with one person, with one choice, with one action, with one initiative, with one community and with one mind." Eight cadets and students of the college participated in the programme.
