UNA, FEBRUARY 8
State president of the NSUI Karun Sharma today lashed out at Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu for dividing the party’s ranks, leading to a weakened party base in the state. Karun Sharma, who is also a Zila Parishad member, was expelled from the party yesterday by the HPCC president for allegedly working against the Congress candidate from Una during the recent Assembly elections.
Karun Sharma charged that Sukhu was acting in the interest of a particular section of the Congress. He said a number of senior leaders had been expelled from the Congress party, adding that this would adversely affect the performance of the party during the coming Parliamentary elections.
The NSUI state president cautioned that if the expulsions were not revoked, the NSUI would initiate a state-wide campaign to remove Sukhu from the post of the HPCC chief. He said he would also meet the Congress national president Rahul Gandhi over the issue, claiming the NSUI cadre, under his leadership, had worked honestly in favour of all Congress candidates during the Assembly elections.
