Mandi, June 30
The Chandrabhaga Sangam Parv was celebrated with fervour at Tandi in Lahaul yesterday. A puja was performed as per Hindu and Buddhist religion at Tandi where both Chandra and Bhaga rivers meet.
The coordinator of the Chandrabhaga Sanga Parv Samiti, who is a professor of tourism in Himachal Pradesh University, said the Chandrabhaga is a Vedic river which is mentioned along with the Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati in the Rigveda.
He said locals believe that queen Droupadi left her body here and the nearby villagers performed her last rituals immersed her ashes in this river. “During the one-day event, rituals were performed on the banks of the river in which local people took part. We have been organising this event since 2016 with the support of locals. The people of the district want to develop this place for religious tourism,” he added. “The motive to organise this event every year is to encourage and make people aware about the religious significance of this river,” he said. — TNS
