While admitting to factionalism within the party, AICC incharge Rajni Patil on Tuesday said personal issues must not come in the way of unity.
“All those who have occupied positions like that of Chief Minister, minister and Speaker while being in the Congress owe a responsibility towards the party,” she said.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Patil said:“Yes, like any other political party, there are differences here too but I will try to resolve them after interacting with all the leaders and party workers.”
Patil was bombarded with questions on the party being faction-ridden and Virbhadra Singh skipping the first state office bearers meeting she addressed. “Ninety per cent of the leaders are united, it is only a mere 10 per cent who could be having personal issues. My advice to everyone is to shed their personal egos in party interest,” she said. She assured that she would try to reach out to everyone. In an oblique reference to senior party leaders, including Virbhadra Singh, she said all those who got the opportunity of becoming CM, ministers and Assembly Speaker should pay back to the party by working for its unity and victory. “What restructuring is required within the party is a call that will be taken by the party high command. That cannot be revealed before the media,” she said.
She said she would tour all the 68 Assembly segments within the next three months, starting from Chamba. Tthe party would put up a united fight to defeat the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. Patil said she would assign responsibilities to all the leaders.
