Baralacha La on the Manali-Leh highway received snow today, posing risk to travellers. Due to snowfall in the high-altitude areas of Lahaul-Spiti and Kullu, the temperature has plummeted drastically.

The traffic was hampered partially on the Manali-Leh highway because of snowfall.

Sources said Shinku La, which connects the Zanskar valley with Lahaul-Spiti, also had snow. Mild snowfall was reported from the Rohtang Pass and Kunzum Pass.

Deputy Commissioner, Lahaul-Spiti, KK Saroch has issued an advisory to tourists to avoid visiting the area. At many places, water has frozen on the roadside, making the road slippery.

Heavy rain lashes state, spell to continue till Oct 7

Shimla: Moderate to heavy rains lashed several parts of Himachal as monsoon remained active with no signs of withdrawal with local MeT office predicting rain and thundershowers in middle hills for next six days and rains and thundershowers in lower and higher hills from October 2-5.

The intermittent rain during the past 24 hours triggered landslides and some houses were damaged in Shimla due to falling of trees. The high altitude tribal areas and other higher hills had another spell of light snowfall and mercury dipped further and minimum temperatures hovered around freezing point in high mountain areas.

The normal time of withdrawal is September 28-29 but it has already been delayed by three days and wet spell is likely to continue till October 7.

The region experienced widespread rain and Nahan was the wettest (93 mm), followed by Naina Devi (81 mm), Bhoranj (40 mm), Una (39 mm), Bharari (35 mm), Jubbal (33 mm), Jhandutta (30 mm), Dharamsala (29 mm), Shimla and Rohru (27 mm), Sangrah (26 mm), Renuka (24 mm), Fagu (16 mm), Rajgarh (15 mm), Sarahan (13 mm), Berthin (12 mm) and Kangra (11 mm).
