Soccer tourney at Sanawar

The five-day 22nd All-India Bhupinder Singh Memorial Soccer Tournament-2019 kicked off at  Lawrence School, Sanawar, on Monday. In the inaugural match, Lawrence School, Sanawar, defeated Sherwood College, Nainital, 5-0. Declaring the tournament open, Vinay Pande, the headmaster, encouraged the teams to play fair.  The All-India Bhupinder Singh Memorial Invitational Soccer Iournament is affiliated to the Himachal Pradesh Football Association as well as the All-India Football Association. This year, 12 school teams from across the country will compete for the coveted trophy. For his amazing display of soccer skills and scoring four out of five goals, Ronald Robert was declared the best player.

Training for 800 farmers 

Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni, and the Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) Foundation have joined hands to improve the skills of farmers through a memorandum of understanding for one year, where Rs 55 lakh will be spent. As many as 32 farmer training programmes will be organised at various locations. The MoU was signed between Dr Rakesh Gupta, Director, Extension Education, and Awadhesh Prasad, Senior AGM (HR), SJVN, in the presence of Dr Parvinder Kaushal, Vice-Chancellor of the university. The university will conduct six-day residential skill development programmes in farm technology for 800 farmers from different districts of the state, including the SJVN’s project areas. The SJVN foundation will bear the cost of these sessions.

Science exhibition at KV 

Kendriya Vidyalaya organised a social science exhibition on its campus at Hira Nagar in Hamirpur on Monday. The exhibition focused on the life and culture of Jharkhand. As many as 490 students from nine central schools of Dharamsala division are participating in the event. Virender Singh, principal of the school, said competitions in folk dance, poem recitation, quiz and declamations would be held in the event. Charanji Lal, Sub-divisional Magistrate, inaugurated the event.
