The state will introduce the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) syllabus for Class I to V from the next academic session. The syllabus is rich in content and will replace the State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) and make the teaching- learning process more interesting and exciting.
The Education Department on Tuesday issued a notification, stating that the government had approved the NCERT syllabus from 2019-20 session for Class I to V and instructed the Block Education Extension Officer (BEEO) to tell principals to send the demand for free textbooks online so that these could be submitted to the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education.
Introducing the NCERT syllabus in primary classes would improve the quality of education. As per feedback from parents and primary teachers, the quality of SCERT books was not very good. That’s why the proposal to introduce the NCERT syllabus was mooted, sources in the department said.
The NCERT syllabus offers questions and answers from all subjects and chapters, complete and customised answers for each question in consonance with NCERT textbooks, extensively researched solutions by subject matter experts, answers have been framed in lucid and easy to understand, videos and animations to support the solutions of difficult questions in mathematics and the answers are enhanced with graphs and illustrations for better comprehension of concepts.
Environmental studies would be introduced from Class III to train children to locate and comprehend the relationship among natural, social and cultural environment.
The syllabus would help a child engage in exploratory and hands-on activities to acquire basic cognitive skills, develop an understanding based on observation and illustration drawn from live experiences, etc.
