Stone of 33 kV substation laid at Banjar

Power Minister Anil Sharma on Saturday laid the foundation stone of a 33 kV substation to be constructed at a cost of Rs 2.33 crore at Mohni village in the Banjar Assembly segment of Kullu district.

It would provide the much-needed relief to the residents of Mandi and Kullu from the problem of low voltage, especially during winter months.

Addressing a gathering, the minister said efforts were being made to ensure regular power supply to each part of the state.

He said the residents of those areas where power lines could not be laid for one reason or the other were being encouraged to install solar panels on the rooftop of their houses to generate electricity for domestic use and commercial purpose.

The minister said the government was providing subsidy to install solar panels and surplus power would be purchased by it.

MLA Surender Shourie said Banjar had been taken under the new tourism circuit, which would pave the way for the development of the area. With the expansion of tourism activities, it would generate self- employment opportunities for the youth of the region, said the MLA.
