The increasing number of stray dogs on Cart Road has become a cause of worry and also heightened the threat of dogs biting passersby. Cemented stairs, constructed on the edge of the road for the convenience of the general public, are mostly occupied by dogs. Cases of dog bite are also on the rise and women and schoolchildren are the most vulnerable. It is a narrow and busy road, but we cannot walk on the pedestrian path as stray dogs are everywhere. The Municipal Corporation should take some steps to rein in the dogs.

Filthy, stinky roadsides in Una

In the absence of a garbage bin, residents of the Una-Takka road in Una city throw garbage on roadsides, attracting dogs and stray cattle. The Una Municipal Committee cleans the place once in two or three days. The filth and foul smell irk the residents and commuters. Heaps of garbage are posing a threat to the health of locals.

Wasting public money

The state government is planning to hold an investors’ meet in Dharamsala. It seems that funds have been sanctioned for giving a facelift to the city. On Wednesday, the PWD was metalling the main road passing through Dharamsala from the mini-secretariat to the zonal hospital. However, the entire exercise seems to be futile as the road is in good shape. There is not even a single pothole on it. The government should metal the Dharamsala-Chari road, which is in a pitiable condition. Metalling roads that are already in good shape means wasting public money.

Tourists do not litter hills

With development comes destruction. I recently visited Chamba and was aghast to see how tourists had blotted the beauty of the picturesque place. Garbage strewn all around made it look shabby. It’s a request to the tourists to maintain the beauty of the place by being responsible. Garbage should be thrown into dustbins, and not dumped on roads. The government should also take steps so that the tourists do not litter the place.
