Solan, October 3
Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths have recovered income tax returns of suspended Assistant Drug Controller (ADC) Nishant Sarin from the premises of a Panchkula-based private company, Zhenia Pharmaceuticals.
Sarin, who was booked under sections 11 and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act by the Bureau on August 21, is currently in judicial remand.
Sources said despite being a state government employee, he appeared to be running a pharmaceutical company along with his companion Dr Komal Khanna and incriminating evidence was recovered during raids conducted in August.
Officials not only recovered from his Chandigarh residence a motorcycle, which was registered in the name of Zhenia Pharmaceuticals, but also a debit card in the name of one of the directors of the company through which purchases worth lakhs of rupees have been found to be made.
A high-end mobile phone, a treadmill as well as a billiard table, reportedly bought with the money allegedly extorted from other pharmaceutical companies, were also found on the premises of Zhenia Pharmaceuticals.
Apart from this, another high-end mobile phone, valued at about Rs80,000 and being used by Sarin, had been purchased by Zhenia Pharmaceuticals, pointing to the fact that he was running the company while pursuing his state government job alongside. Sarin, arrested by the bureau in September, has sought a regular bail and the High Court will take up his plea tomorrow.
