Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Monday honoured women achievers — Anchal Thakur, Geeta Verma, Preeti Kanwar, Priyanka Negi, Sanjana Geol, Seema Devi, Seema Thakur, Shashi Negi and Sushma Verma — for excelling in various fields, including sports.

Addressing a state-level legal awareness programme and felicitation function organised by the Himachal Pradesh Commission for Women, the Chief Minister said several laws had been enacted for women empowerment and checking crime against them, but still a lot more was needed to be done to change the mindset of society.

Thakur said on an average, the commission received about 1,000 cases every year, out of which over 600 were amicably resolved by the commission.
