Catherine Fischer, Public Diplomacy Officer, North India, Embassy of the US, on Thursday visited Himachal Pradesh University and held detailed discussions regarding mutual area of interest, specially cementing the India-US collaboration in the field of bio-fuel, smart city projects, self-employment and skill development with Vice-Chancellor Prof Sikander Kumar. She said currently the collaboration was in operation at Jaipur, Ajmer, Banaras and Allahabad. Kumar emphasised on entering mutual areas of interest in research and extension at the university level. Dean of Studies Prof Arvind Kalia gave details of courses being taught at the PG Centre, Evening Studies Department, Regional Centre, Dharamsala, and Resource Centre, Noida. Dean Planning Prof Arvind Bhatt talked about the schemes of MHRD and implementation of RUSA. Later, Fischer gave a presentation on women in entrepreneurship and interacted with girl students of various departments of the university.
Three-day festival concludes
A three-day festival, "Envision-2019", organised by the University Institute of Legal Studies on Thursday concluded with moot court competition finals. Himachal Pradesh High Court Justice CB Barowalia was the chief guest on the occasion. The event was followed by various cultural events such as "Bhangra" and "Naati" competitions and various other performances.
Shoolini university signs 10 MoUs
Ten MoUs were signed by Shoolini University to commemorate its 10th Foundation Day with Cankiri Karatekin University, Turkey, Taiwan Economic and Cultural Centre, Eastern Institute Technology, New Zealand, Kardan University of Afghanistan, Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Nigeria, Jenderal Soedirman University, Indonesia, Texas College of Management, Nepal, and Drabya Shah Multiple Campus, Nepal. Vice-Chancellor Prof PK Khosla said they were aiming at making the university a 100 per cent residential complex in the next five years. He said 30 new courses would be added in the next two years and a cancer research centre would also be opened.
International workshop at varsity
An international workshop was organised by the School of Law, Shoolini University, to celebrate the 10th foundation year of Shoolini University. The workshop was inaugurated by Daisy Thakur, Chairman, Himachal Pradesh State Commission for Women. She shared the magnitude and statistics available with the Commission on the crime of trafficking. Junaita M Headley, author of Changing Cases, discussed several case studies of the US, UK, Jamaica and India where trafficking was on the rise. She also emphasised on the role of pornography as well as social media. Dr Kalpana Sharma, Professor of Law, Delhi University, and Dr Upneet Lalli, Deputy Director, Institute of Correctional Administration, Chandigarh, also shared their views on various issues. Justice SS Thakur (retd), Chairman-cum-Adviser, School of Law, Shoolini University, presided over the concluding session as its chief guest. He highlighted the role of courts in combating the evils of human trafficking, which has taken a toll on the most sensitive and empowered sections of society — women and children. As many as 100 delegates participated in the workshop.
students cautioned against tobacco
A speech competition was organised by Rose Public School, Suliali (Nurpur), on "National Anti-Tobacco Campaign" initiated by the Central Government. Senior Medical Officer Dr Sahil delivered a speech to make students aware about the harmful effects of tobacco. He urged the students to stay away from any kind of tobacco products. Aditi Pathania, Kanika and Ruhi were awarded first, second and third positions in the competition, respectively. Principal Sanjay Sharma paid his gratitude to Dr Sahil and his medical team.
