Chamba, March 4
Chamba’s new Superintendent of Police Dr Monika Bhutungru advocated zero-tolerance towards crime against women. After assuming office, Bhutungru said safety of women would be her top priority, adding that eve-teasing cases would be dealt with sternly.
Besides, regulation of traffic, curbing drug trafficking, people-friendly policing and maintaining peace in the district would also be on the list.
The SP said special crime teams had been set up to curb drug trade in the area.
To deal with anti-social elements, the SP appealed to the people to cooperate and have faith in the police. She said it was the duty of residents to inform the police if they noticed any suspicious activity.
“I am fortunate to have got a posting in Chamba district as it is beautiful place. The people here are good. I will try to live up to their expectations,” the SP said.
The 2014 batch IPS officer, Dr Monika Bhutungru, hails from Lahaul-Spiti district. After completing her MBBS, she cleared civil services examination and became an IPS officer. It is for the first time that a woman SP has taken the charge of Chamba.
