With the tenure of the village panchayats set to end soon, a sarpanch from Kheri Jalab village in Narnaund block reportedly withdrew around Rs 2.5 crore panchayat funds from the panchayat’s bank account with the help of forged documents and fled.
The police registered a case against the sarpanch and village secretary on the complaint of the block development and panchayat officer (BDPO) and have started investigations.
Sources said the BDPO in a complaint to the police said the sarpanch had drawn about Rs 2.5 crore from the gram panchayat account at the local branch of HDFC Bank without authorisation between July 4 and July 24.
Narnaund police station SHO Vidhya Nand informed said a case under sections 420 (fraud), 467, 468, 471 and 120 B of IPC has been registered on the complaint of BDPO Sombir Kadyan against sarpanch Surinder and panchayat secretary Mandeep Singh.
